Maynard L Williams, 64, of Surprise, AZ, passed away on April 7, 2019.

Maynard was born in Chicago, IL, on September 24, 1954. He grew up in Wauconda, IL, and graduated from Wauconda High School in 1972. Maynard served in the US Navy from August 1972 to 1976, and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He then served in the US Army Reserves for 2 years before being Honorably Discharged. Maynard married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Shergold, on July, 7, 1974.

To continue his desire to serve, Maynard became a police officer, serving the communities of Wauconda, Huntley, Bull Valley, and finally Oakwood Hills, where he eventually became Police Chief. Maynard also chose to begin a career as a Fire Fighter, first as a volunteer with the Wauconda Fire Department, then becoming a Paramedic, and in 1982, he became a full time Fire Firefighter with the North Maine Fire Protection District, in Des Plaines, IL, eventually becoming their District Chief. He retired in 2007. He then moved to Surprise, AZ, with his wife Nancy, and began working for the department of Homeland Security at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, becoming a Deputy Assistant Federal Security Director, and again served his country for another 13 years. 

Maynard was passionate about riding his motorcycle, collecting guns, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Maynard is survived by his wife, Nancy Williams; daughter, Bridget (Alex) Linderman; sons, Robert and Kevin Williams; grandchildren, Gabrielle (Sean) Bartlett, Kaili, and Aubrie Williams; great grandchildren Oliver and Ireland Bartlett; sister Gayle (Randy) Brown; and his dogs Jack, Walter, Nellie, and FanFamily and friends will be gathering Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Church, 7200 W. Talcott (at Harlem) from 10:00 am until time of Memorial Mass celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment of cremains to follow at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines, Il.   In Lieu of Flowers, contributions can be made in Maynard’s name to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
