Shirley E. Schultz

Visitation will take place on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the M J Suerth Funeral Home at 1pm and there will be memories and eulogies shared at 2 pm.

On Wednesday, July 24th, 2019 Shirley Schultz, loving wife of Carl, passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones at the age of 90.

Shirley Erna Kowalke was born on August 5, 1928 in Chicago, IL.
On October 8, 1949 at St. Edwards Church, Shirley was married to Carl Schultz and began the beautiful life they would enjoy so closely together in Park Ridge for almost 70 years.

Shirley was the kindest person, a caring listener, always on your side and always sharing her love through her actions and generosity. Shirley was interested in so many things throughout her long and blessed life. There was of course, her love of Dachshunds, the years of supporting local dog clubs and all the dear friends she made there. Shirley was an artist who painted her original treasures so that she could give them away to family and friends. She loved to be working in the garden and regularly won the “Tallest Sunflower Competition”. She was a traveler, an incredible cook, a lover of all things sweet and chocolate, an avid collector, a crafter and a catalog connoisseur who was always on the lookout for the perfect thoughtful gift. Shirley's optimism, love of life and love for family and friends were an example to everyone who knew her well. We will truly miss the long phone calls that had to be long so that she could catch up on all the details of our lives. We will miss the funniest family get-togethers we had for so many years. Most of all, we will miss you, Shirley.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the neighbors of Carl and Shirley for their love, kindness and immeasurable support over the years. Shirley thought of you all as a family.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Hedwig (Hattie) and father, Walter. She is survived by her loving husband Carl, only brother, Richard “Dick” Kowalke, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a vast extended family who all knew and loved her.

Memorials may be made in Shirley’s name to the DACHSHUND CLUB OF GREAT LAKES,
PO Box 901, Lake Forest IL 60045.
