Fritz H. PetzoldPETZOLD

Fritz H. Petzold, son of the late Walter and Charlotte, born February 21, 1937 in Freital, Germany. In 1953, after defecting to the West to escape the occupation, the Petzold family settled in the Chicago area.

Fritz spent his career with the CTA, starting as a bus driver around 1957 and retiring in 1999 as a Senior Industrial Engineer. A true engineer through and through, Fritz never met a challenge that couldn’t be fixed, except for his Amyloidosis diagnosis.

Fritz was a humble man, as he liked to remind us with some regularity. He enjoyed yodel music and Oktoberfest celebrations, good beer, and his pristine garden and positively otherworldly lawn.

Fritz loved snow, adventure, and the mountains. He especially loved adventure in the mountains, with free time spent skiing, teaching others to ski, or hawkishly watching the online snow camera at A-Basin.
He leaves behind numerous mediocre skiers (and a couple of pretty passable ones), including Karen (nee Schmutte), his beloved wife of almost 49 years. Kids Brian (Helen), Patrick (Melanie), Erika (Paul Larson), Mark (Heather), and an abundance of grandkids: Michael, Megan, Grace, Ethan, Zachary, Max, Hannah, Luke, Charlotte, Walter, Harriet, Kayla, Lauren, and Riley. Beloved brother to Werner and the late Charlie (Beverly).  Uncle and friend to many around the world.
The family would like to thank his medical caregivers at Resurrection Amita Health and Rainbow Hospice for their kindness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mayo Clinic or to the cause of your choice appreciated.

Think snow, and raise a toast in Fritz’s memory.
