Ronald T. Moran, 84, of Chicago, retired Chicago Police Department captain and Korean War Army veteran, passed away December 22, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents William F. and Catherine A. (nee Kelleher) Moran, his brother William F. Moran, Jr., his first wife Dora Moran (nee Scheirer) and their sons Ronald Jr. and Mark Moran. He is survived by his children Renée (Dean) Matson, Thomas J. Moran, Colette M. Moran (James Pethokoukis), Daniel W. (Cory) Moran and Joan E. Moran, former wife Joyce (James) Maddock, 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Chicago born and raised, Ron was a 1951 graduate of St. Philip Basilica High School and served in the Army from 1953-1955. He joined the Chicago Police Department in 1957 and worked in numerous districts, including a teaching position at the Police Academy. He attended night school at Wright Junior College and DePaul University for several years, culminating with a law degree in 1970. He was a member and past commander of the Ted Knusman Amvets Post 13. He retired from CPD in 1993 and enjoyed countless festive occasions with his growing brood.

Ron was a seasonal resident of Williams Bay, WI, an avid reader, a singer of Irish ballads, a hole-in-one golfer, a world traveler, a White Sox and Bears fan, and spent many autumns hunting pheasant in Iowa. He will be missed by his family and the friends and acquaintances he made throughout the years.

A Memorial Visitation will take place at the M.J. Suerth Funeral Home, 6754 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago, Saturday, Dec. 30, from 12 noon until time of Memorial Service 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, www.cpdmemorial.or g.
