James “Jim” R. McGovern, 80, of Edison Park, peacefully passed away on January 23, 2017. Beloved husband of Carroll Segerson. Dear son of the late Frank and Loraine McGovern. Loving father of Michael, Daniel (Gale Geschrey) and Pearce McGovern. Proud grandfather of Amanda, Lauren and Sean McGovern. Jim retired in 1996, having spent 50 years as a lithographer primarily with Schawk Graphics and NCL Graphics. During his retirement, his great love of learning led him to enroll at Northwestern University. He graduated in 2012 earning a Bachelor’s Degree, with honors, in General Studies, and was a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda fraternity. Jim also spent time volunteering with Fourth Presbyterian Church’s Chicago Lights, a tutoring program for middle and high school students from disadvantaged neighborhoods. He later became involved with Man-to-Man, an educational and support group for men diagnosed with prostate cancer. Jim also had a wide range of interests. He enjoyed studying history, reading and writing poetry, crossword puzzles, photography, gardening, genealogy, cooking, traveling and having great conversations and telling stories. He loved any and all gatherings with friends & family and we will miss him dearly. Visitation Saturday, January 28, 2017, at M.J. SUERTH FUNERAL HOME, 6754 N.
