James MalatareLokota Souix EmblemMALATARE

James Malatare made his journey to the spirit world on May 1, 2017 at Presence Resurrection Hospital in Chicago.  James was born on November 24, 1984 to Clovia Malatare (Afraid of Bear) of the Oglala Lakota Nation of Pine Ridge South Dakota and Leonard Malatare Salish and Cree from the Flathead Indian Reservation Montana.  He is survived by his mother Clovia Malatare; his father Leonard Malatare his son Dakotah Cante Malatare, special friend Bonita Luna, mother of Dakotah; his brothers, Charles Cosson, Richard Cosson and his sisters Tamji Sarah Cosson, Illinois, and Tana Malatare, Harwood Heights.  His nieces, Phezi Hota Wiya Cosson, Desiree Afraid of Bear. Natalie Argujio and his nephew Kent Eli Whitney. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kiva Rae Cosson.

Indio Nation as he was known by his friends was very proud of his Native American heritage.  He began dancing and singing at an early age.  He enjoyed traveling with his family to many powwows.  James also loved to attend the sundance every summer in South Dakota.  James was a very kind and generous man and a good father who loved his son dearly

Visitation on Wednesday May 3, 2017 at Suerth Funeral Home, 6754 Northwest Highway, Chicago, Illinois from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
