Purple RoseDe GROOT

Diane De Groot, formerly of River Forest, passed away on January 14, 2020 in Nashville, TN. Diane was born on February 11, 1939 to Harvey and Margaret Beckway in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. Diane shared many fond memories of growing up in the Chicagoland area, including having a pet pony. While attending Northwestern University, she met her late husband Robert, and they married in 1959. Together they raised their two children, Dean and Robin. During her time in River Forest she was extremely active in the area. She was a Den Mother, an active volunteer at Willard Elementary school, and even served as the President of the PTO at Oak Park River Forest High School. Diane also enjoyed curling at the Oak Park Country Club and helped organize many fund raisers as the President of the Auxiliary board at West Suburban Hospital.

Even with all of the activities Diane always put family first and loved becoming a Mimi to her four grandchildren. She was always there for her family who she loved to pieces. Sunday night family dinners were a weekly event in her home and most enjoyed by her adoring grandchildren. Later in life Diane and Robert retired to sunny Florida where she continued to volunteer and enjoy her love of gardening.

Diane touched many people throughout her life and will be remembered fondly by many. She is survived by her children, Dean (Aimee) and Robin (Craig Smith) and grandchildren, Andrew (Jenny), Courtney, Tyler Arbeen, and Brooke Arbeen who will all cherish her love, laughter, and memory every day.

A visitation will be held on March 7th from 11:00am to 12:30pm at Suerth Funeral home, 6754 Northwest Highway Chicago, Illinois. A memorial will follow.
