Cynthia Ann (Borchek) Davenport, began the journey to receive her wings on Monday, March 27, 2023.
Born in Chicago on April 3, 1953, she graduated from Foreman High School in 1970 and started on a path of adventurous routes and achievements.
Cindy proved to be a natural in fishing, volleyball, bowling, darts, slots, poker, and life, also a proud Harley Davidson rider. She specialized in living for the day. She explored various careers which included being a candy and nut clerk at Sears, and because of her being superior in height, she was a “Legg’s Girl” panty hose representative where she achieved a position in the top five sales leaders in the Chicago area. This came with an awarded recognition luncheon with Barbara Eden. Nobody looked as good in those Sheer Energy as Cindy with her “hot legs!”
After a brief time of working as an executive secretary, Cindy decided that she could do much more with her strength and fearlessness, so she applied for and was accepted into the Local 21 Bricklayer’s Apprenticeship Program in Chicago and soon become the only female bricklayer in the union. As a bricklayer/stone mason Cindy helped build the O’Hare Airport Post Office, the Loyola University Gold Coast building, and many Chicago public schools and sewer drains. She was extremely proud of her achievements as the only lady bricklayer in the state, and never lost her “Bricklayer Grip”.
Born with bright burgundy colored hair, the shenanigans of Lucy Ricardo seemed to come naturally to Cindy; from wearing a halter top to the Florida Everglades while slapping countless mosquito swarms from her entire upper body during a steamy boardwalk tour, to snoring and rolling down a hill overnight in a tiny tent with her husband in Apple Canyon, or experiencing the adventure of NASCAR and IndyCar driving with him, Cindy could have written and starred in her own sit-com.
As a big sister, Cindy was an extraordinary leader. She was always there for you no matter what; tough, protective, proud, and fun. She mastered the art of humor, a bit of trouble making, and the joy of life at levels not many can claim, and Cindy loved her brother and sister without fail. She always was, and forever will be, watching over us all. Cindy is why we still hold hands when we cross the street.
Always linked to the importance of numbers, Cindy “Sweet Potato” married the late Earl “the Pearl” Gene “Gemucsh” Davenport, a Local 9 Chicago lineman, on January 23, 2004 (1234). Cindy and Gene were a perfectly matched pair, and they enjoyed many happy and devoted years together, and after Gene passed in January 2018, Cindy’s heart was broken.
Cynthia Ann was the first born of her late father, Captain Peter G. “Mad Russian” Borchek, CFD, Local 2 and loyal BoB member, and her supportive late mother Joan T. (Bednarz) Borchek, her favorite BINGO partner, who together nurtured her with a love of life, toughness, and attitude. Also, preceding Cindy was her beloved Rusty, the family beagle-foxhound who became brilliant with Cindy’s dedicated training.
Family members who will always cherish the conversations, arguments, resolutions, good times spent with, and the love of Cindy include her brother, Peter M. Borchek III, US Navy CPO (Retired), who stood by her side through her recent challenges as she always did for him, her “baby sister” Susan D. Borchek Smith, whom Cindy named, her brother-in-law Vincent J. Smith, nephew Peter J. “Spud” Borchek IV, his wife Uranbaigal Ganbold Borchek, and niece Jennifer A. Borchek. Also, her beautiful cats, Bonnie and Clyde who helped her through recent tough times are now sorely missing her. Extended family of Cindy’s include numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, Harley enthusiasts, and casino hosts.
The Borchek family would like to express their appreciation to ICU R.N. Ryan C. from Lutheran General Hospital, who ensured that Cindy was taken care of with kindness and compassion through her most difficult days.
Visitation at the M J Suerth Funeral Home, 6754 N. Northwest Hwy., Chicago. Please come to share stories and memories of Cindy on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and again on April 3, 2023, where we will gather for prayers at Suerth at 11:00 a.m., to St. Juliana Catholic Church for Mass at 11:30 am, to celebrate Cindy’s eternal homecoming.
