Barbara S. ConklinCONKLIN

Barbara S. Conklin, nee Sterrett, 86, of Edison Park, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Presence Resurrection Medical Center on December 10, 2017. 


A Chicago native, Barbara was born to John William and Amanda (Zywert) Sterrett in 1931. After graduating from Providence High School, she worked as secretary to the editor of Modern Hospital Magazine downtown until the birth of her first child with her husband, the late James W. Conklin, whom she married in October, 1957. 


After raising six children as a homemaker, she worked for twenty-five years as a lighting consultant for Active Electrical Supply. She was an enthusiast for Chicago’s culture offerings, including the symphony, opera, ballet, plays and musicals, as well as the Chicago Botanical garden, where she found inspiration for her own lifelong passion for gardening.

 
She is survived by Peter, Mary Elizabeth (Patrick) Donlon, Andrew (Helen), Amanda (Glenn) Shadduck, Paul (Therese) and Patricia (Leo Michuda) Conklin. Proud grandmother of Nathaniel (Ashley), Kelly, Adam, Noel and Claire. Dear sister of John (Dorothy) and Russell (Betty and the late Anne) Sterrett. Sister-in-law of Mary Patricia (Eugene) Fontaine and the late Margaret (the late Robert) Conley and the late Thomas (the late Dolores) Conklin.  Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.  Visitation Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 at the M.J. Suerth Funeral Home, 6754 N. Northwest Hwy. Chicago from 4-9 pm. Funeral Friday, prayers at funeral home 9:30 am to Immaculate Conception Church, (Harlem and Talcott). Mass 10:00am.
