Message From Our Family

Our purpose in bringing you this website is to make available information about Suerth Funeral Home. My name is Dennis Krawzak, my twin brother, Donald, and I have owned Suerth’s since 1990 and I have worked with this funeral home organization since 1974.
Suerth’s has been on this site in the Edison Park community of Chicago since 1927. It is the oldest business in this community. We take much pride in that.
My father, Ray Krawzak, worked his entire professional life here as a funeral director for 37 years, he passed away in 1983 while Don and I were funeral directors employed here. Many improvements have been made here at Suerth Funeral Home but the main direction that Mr. Bud Suerth started remains.   In 1927 Mr. Suerth wanted to create an atmosphere where families could greet guests at a funeral that would be very much like their own home. It was customary to have visitations at one’s own residence at the time. People in the area were ready to change that trend. Suerth Funeral Home was built with many windows that open and overlook gardens to add to a comfortable setting. It is a calming atmosphere in a time of distress. “A Funeral Home in a Garden Setting” is a statement that has been carried for decades here. Times change, trends change, but in this area families want comfort and trust when they need funeral services for a family member.  Corporations have purchased local funeral homes. We advertise, “Family owned and operated” as many firms do, but here at Suerth’s 95% of the time Don or I meet with the family and are present at the funeral services. We are lucky enough to have Peter Heneghan as a funeral director who also grew up in the neighborhood and learned the funeral business as Don and I did from the end of a paint brush. Nancy Haran is our overseer on everything, a wonderful compassionate person who has spent her whole life in the community. We are not a corporately run funeral home.  No one has to ask for an approval from the “home office”. That in a nutshell is what we try to do. Help people celebrate a life in the manner they wish, whatever that may be. Times change, trends change and at Suerth’s we hope we can help families when they need it the most. Take a few minutes to review this website. There is a lot of information on it. If you have any questions call Don or I at 877-631-1240 or use the contact email.  Thank you, Dennis Krawzak
